Art criticism has played a significant role in the development of Vancouver’s internationally recognized contemporary art scene. Join Fillip editors and guest artists as they present a brief history of independent contemporary art periodicals in Vancouver. This discussion will offer a glimpse into the art scene as it relates to local responses to global art criticism and independent magazine and broadsheet publishing while also addressing the present state and possible future of contemporary art publications in cities outside of the traditional art capitals. Guest participants:  Jonathan Middleton (Publisher) presents a brief history of Vancouver art periodicals.Jordan Strom (Editor) talks about the concept and history of The Fillip Review in relation to parallel trends in independent art periodical publishingKristina Lee Podesva (Assistant Editor) will discuss the Fillip Artist “Insert” Projects.    Antonia Hirsch (Artist, Fillip Contributor and Advisory Board Member) speaks about her practice.
