A superb tale is always worth the retelling…with Puppets.

The Handspring Puppet Company, founded in Cape Town in 1981 by  Basil Jones and Adrian Kohler, started working with William Kentridge in 1992 on the award winning production of Woyzeck on the Highveld. Since then the company has collaborated on a number of multi-media works.  first performed in 1998 at the KunstenFESTIVAL des Arts in Brussels, followed by performances for the King and Queen of Belgium,  the Queen of the Netherlands, and later toured in Berlin, Zurich, Lisbon and to Pretoria and Grahamstown in South Africa.

Now its in Seattle and you can catch the upcoming performance of Monteverdi’s Return of Ulysses at Pacific Opera Works throughout the month of March.

I have a certain reverence for Puppets and Muppets of all kinds – but these are PHENOMENALLY better. Speaking of Muppets – keep you eyes peeled for upcoming exhibitions at the Experience Music Project this summer. I’ve heard things. Exciting things.
