Two new exhibitions opening at the Henry

This Saturday, October 6th, the Henry invites you to the opening of two new exhibitions: Pipilotti Rist: A la belle étoile and En Plein Air.

Rist’s immersive installation, which is in collaboration with Seattle Art Museum and the exhibition Elles: Women Artists from the Centre Pompidou, Paris, will transform the gallery space by projecting moving images onto the floor and setting a confusion of perspectives into motion. Rist’s work is known to be optically exuberant and engage viewers’ bodies and senses.

En Plein Air presents work culled from the Henry’s permanent collection along with the work of the young French Algerian contemporary artist Neïl Beloufa. The exhibition broadly addresses how the practice of en plein air painting richly influenced the early years of photography and the subsequent practice of the arts. The role of the artist as flâneur is crucial to the thesis of this focused exhibition which includes paintings by Boudin and Corot, and photographs from the Henry’s important holdings of French photography, including the work of Eugene Atget, Henri Lartigue, Charles Marville, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and others.
