The Henry Hosts Big Brothers Big Sisters

Last Saturday, the Henry education team paired one of our favorite high school programs – the longstanding Roosevelt High School Partnership program, through which museum staff train Roosevelt students to lead public gallery tours – with a champion group of matches from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound. (A Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) match is a “Little” and his or her adult mentor, a “Big.”)

Teams of Roosevelt students brought three groups of BBBS matches on an interactive tour of  Vortexhibition Polyphonica and led lively discussions about the artwork and themes of the exhibition. (Many thanks to the sharp and funny matches that made the conversations so fun.)

Following the tours, everyone ate candy cane flavored cupcakes, courtesy Cupcake Royale

…and worked on art projects inspired by the show: text-based posters and alter ego, costumed portraits.  The costume teams in action (face painting, costuming, and cupcake eating):
