Last night, around 7PM, I met with three writers in Light Reign, our James Turrell Skyspace, I Myself Have Seen It: Photography & Kiki Smith, and in Vortexhibition Polyphonica. After our meeting, these writers went home and wrote three plays – using our exhibitions as a springboard for content. This morning, we met three directors and twelve actors who are, at this moment, rehearsing in the galleries. Join me at the Henry tonight at 7:30 to check out the speedy, awesome, energetic work they’re doing.

Once Upon A Museum is a collaboration between the Henry Art Gallery and the University of Washington’s School of Drama. It is the latest incarnation of a program brought to the UW by Shanga Parker in 1998. Inspired by Once Upon A Weekend, at Brown University, Once Upon A Museum will be an instant festival of art, theater, experimentation, and collaboration—with three “instant” ten-minute productions, each using a different Henry exhibition as its creative springboard.
Each play will be written, cast, rehearsed and performed in under 24 hours. Join us at the Henry to watch these performances, and celebrate this whirlwind of collaborative creativity in the galleries.
