Screening: OUR CITY DREAMS featuring Kiki Smith, Nancy Spero, Marina Abramovic, Ghada Amer and Swoon

On July 15th at 7 pm the Henry will screen Chiara Clemente’s film Our City Dreams, an intimate look into the creative spaces of artists Kiki Smith, Nancy Spero, Marina Abramovic, Ghada Amer and Swoon. Despite differences in experiences and backgrounds, these women have all journeyed to and now call New York City home, where the ephemera of the city influences and intertwines with the working life of each artist. The documented years hold many triumphs and challenges for the participating artists, and Clemente captures important moments including Swoon’s first solo exhibition at Deitch Projects in New York, Ghada Amer’s return to her Egyptian homeland, Kiki Smith’s traveling retrospective, Marina Abramovic’s week-long series of performances at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and Nancy Spero’s preparations of a new piece for the 2007 Venice Biennale.

BUT WAIT! There’s more!

Before the screening Henry Curatorial Associate Misa Jeffereis will kick it off with a question and answer session. After the screening, Henry Chief Curator Elizabeth Brown will lead a guided tour. (If you’d like to attend the tour, please rsvp to tours@henryart.org.)
