Deborah Willis in Tacoma tonight

Dr. Deborah Willis, chair of the department of Photography and Imaging at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and  preeminent scholar of African American photography will be speaking tonight at 7pm at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma.

The discussion is a follow-up on UPS’s Race and Pedagogy National Conference that took place in October and will focus on notions of beauty in the 21st century and the impact of beauty, history, and memory on the processes of artistic production, including her own.

We’re excited to have Dr. Willis in the northwest, as she is planning to curate a future exhibition for the Henry including work by local photographers past and present. She plans to visit the region again, and more specifically Seattle, in the spring to begin organizing the exhibition.
