Following Wendell: The Culture & Politics of Sustenance

There is still space available for SAL U’s upcoming lecture series on The Culture & Politics of Sustenance featuring Branden BornKurt TimmermeisterDavid R. MontgomeryJosh Tewksbury, and Elizabeth Wheat.

Before Michael Pollan, there was Wendell Berry, farmer, poet, and environmental revolutionary. In honor of Berry, who will visit Seattle on May 24 as part of SAL’s American Voices series, we’ve gathered a compelling group of thinkers, authors, and farmers who will cover wide range of topics related to food and our environment, such as food deserts, obesity, and urban farming. The series will conclude with a special Saturday trip to tour the University of Washington’s farm which educates the community about the impact of our food choices and models how we can reduce those impacts. The visit will conclude with prosecco and pizza from the farm’s wood-fired oven. There is a special 15% discount for UW students, staff, and faculty (just enter the code: SALUUW).
