May is officially recognized as Arts Education Month in Washington state! We acknowledge the critical role the arts can play in our schools and the community. An important program at the Henry that exemplifies this thought into action is the Henry High School Student Guide Program.
Since 1997, the Henry Art Gallery and Roosevelt High School have partnered to bring students a greater appreciation for art in their everyday lives. Roosevelt students, and now Shorecrest High School students, are trained as Museum Guides to create and lead interactive tours for the community and their peers.
The Henry High School Student Guide Program was recognized in Winter of 2011 by PBS affiliate KCTS 9 and was among the recipients of the 2010 Golden Apple Award.
You can currently experience a High School Student led tour of Inspiring Vision: Looking at Photography and The Talent Show. Tours offered through June 17th.
• 50-minute interactive tours encourage creativity and critical thinking.
• Tours are scheduled between Wednesday 11-4pm, Thursday-Friday 11-9pm and Saturday-Sunday 11-4pm.
